This policy explains how [Business / legal name] handles personal information in connection with The Upgrade Library. It describes what we actually collect today and is updated as payment, analytics and email providers are connected.
01Information we collect
We collect only what we need to operate the site and fulfil orders:
- Purchase information — the email address you enter at checkout, the products ordered, order reference and amount paid.
- Contact information — the name, email address and message content you submit through the contact form.
- Consent records — a record that you accepted the Terms and acknowledged immediate supply of digital content, with the time it was given.
- Technical information — where our hosting or analytics providers record it, information such as IP address, browser type, device type and pages viewed.
We do not collect special category data and we do not ask for more information than is required to complete a purchase.
02Cookies and similar technologies
The site uses local browser storage to remember the contents of your cart between visits. This is necessary for the shopping functionality to work. If analytics or marketing cookies are introduced in future, this policy will be updated and, where required, consent will be requested before they are set.
03How we use information
- to process payments and deliver purchased digital products;
- to send order confirmations, access instructions and service messages;
- to respond to enquiries and provide customer support;
- to keep records required for accounting, tax and legal compliance;
- to maintain the security and integrity of the site;
- to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used and improve it.
04Legal bases
Where UK or EU data protection law applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (to deliver what you buy); legal obligation (to keep financial records); legitimate interests (to secure and improve the site and respond to enquiries); and consent (where required, for example for optional marketing email or non-essential cookies). You may withdraw consent at any time.
05Payment processing
Payments are handled by a third-party payment provider. Card details are entered directly with that provider and are not collected or stored by us. We receive confirmation of payment and limited order information necessary to fulfil the order.
06Email communications
We use your email address to send transactional messages relating to your order, such as confirmation and access instructions. We will only send marketing email if you have separately opted in, and every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link.
07Service providers
We use service providers to host the site, process payments and send email. These providers process personal information on our instructions and under contract. We keep the list of providers current as services are connected, and we do not sell personal information.
08Sharing information
We share personal information only with the service providers described above, with professional advisers where necessary, where required by law or to protect legal rights, and in connection with a business transfer where the recipient is bound by equivalent protections.
09Data retention
Order and transaction records are retained for as long as required by accounting and tax law. Contact enquiries are retained only as long as needed to deal with the matter and keep a reasonable record. Information no longer needed is deleted or anonymised.
10Data security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections and reputable providers with their own security controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11International transfers
Some providers may process information outside your country. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we take steps to ensure an appropriate level of protection, such as relying on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses where applicable.
12Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your information, correct inaccurate information, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, request portability, and withdraw consent.
To exercise a right, email hello@theupgradelibrary.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
13Children's privacy
The site and products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
14Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service develops or as new providers are connected. The effective date above shows when this version was published.
